Heads, Hands, and Hearts Needed for Family Events
Family & Children's Services
Date: Monday, February 9, 2009, from 4:00-7:00pm for the group event. Or at
home anytime.
Location: In your home or the downtown office on February 9:

Family & Children's Services uses cutouts of heads, hands, and hearts as a fun family-strengthening and community-building activity in their programs. They are looking for volunteers to either cut out the patterns at home and send them to the address above or to come to the group event and spend some time cutting out the patterns there. Both are extremely helpful! If you choose to participate at home, you can e-mail Kimberly (listed below) and have a one-page template e-mailed to you and make your own copies or Kimberly can mail you copies to cut.
Ages: Anyone who is able to safely use scissors.
Time Commitment: At the group event you and your family can stay for as little as a half hour or up to three hours.

Hands On Twin Cities Volunteer Expo
Date: Saturday,February 21, 2009
Location: Mall of America
Join us at Mall of America and find out about the fun and meaningful ways to make a difference in your community through volunteering. Over one hundred local nonprofits who work with volunteers will be present to tell you about the opportunities available for young and old, friends and families, neighborhood and workplace groups, faith organizations and more! Discover how you can help, even with your busy lifestyle. From one-time projects to longer-term commitments, there's a great volunteer opportunity out there for you, and you'll find it at the Expo. Be sure to visit the Doing Good Together booth!
Ages: Any age child is welcome to stop by the booths with their families.
Time Commitment: Come anytime between 10AM and 3PM.

Bingo Host
Aeon (formerly Central Community Housing Trust)
Date: Flexible
Location: 66 South 12th St, Minneapolis, MN 55403
Organize a bingo game for formally-homeless adults. Aeon provides the bingo set and you provide the prizes and snacks. Snacks can include anything from homemade cookies and coffee to chips and pop. (Remember the plates, napkins, and cups.) You should bring around 20 prizes, which can be from the dollar store and can include household supplies, candles, self-care items, board games, linens, snacks, beverages, cooking supplies, meal kits, clothing, or small gift cards. Help provide a fun and welcoming environment for these residents.
Ages: Groups of 2-4; great for families with children 12 and older. Time Commitment: Two hours.

Piano Player

A residence for young adults with disabilities is looking for people to come in and play the piano. If you or your children love to provide the experience of music, no matter what level of skill, this opportunity would be excellent for you.
Ages: Any age is welcome.
Time Commitment: You could play one song, or you could play several.

Host a Baby Shower
Minneapolis Crisis Nursery
Date: Flexible
Location: 5400 Glenwood Avenue; Golden Valley, MN 55422
Your company, civic group, family, friends, neighbors, or youth group can host a baby shower to collect new items included on the current wish list of items needed by the Nursery, such as kid's toothbrushes, bibs, Kleenex and diapers.
Ages: Any age child can help you collect the items and deliver them to the Nursery.
Time Commitment: Spend as much time as you'd like collecting the items.
