Martin Luther King, Jr. Day: Family Service Event
Minnesota Children's Museum

Date: Monday, January 19
Time: 10 am - 4 pm

Doing Good Together and the Minnesota Children's Museum are partnering to celebrate the life of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Adults and children can play in the museum and then take part in a variety of fun service projects such as creating special cards for children who are in the hospital or decorating placemats for people who receive Meals on Wheels. Visitors will also have the opportunity to learn about more ways to serve together by visiting with staff from Doing Good Together.

Ages: All ages are welcome.
Time Commitment: Come for as long as you'd like.

Morning of Family Service
Love In[Deed]
 
Date: Saturday January 10
Time: 8:30am to noon
Location: Meet in the Wooddale Church (Eden Prairie Campus) Gym, Door 5
                  6630 Shady Oak Rd.
                  Eden Prairie 55344
Join Love In[Deed] in making a difference in the Twin Cities. Just show up, choose from a variety of pre-planned volunteer opportunities and then go serve the community. Buses will be provided to transport volunteers to site they select. In past years, volunteers have served at Goodwill, Second Harvest, Cornerstone, senior centers, and more.
 
Ages: This is a great opportunity for all ages to give.
Time Commitment: Just one Saturday morning, 8:30am to noon.

2009 Walk to Cure Diabetes

Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation

 

Date: Saturday, January 24

Time: Registration begins at 7:00am; walk begins at 8:00am

Location: Mall of America, Bloomington

 

Help find a cure for diabetes by joining the largest indoor walk in Minnesota. Walk for one hour with no set distance. At 9:00am there will be a celebration ceremony in the Best Buy Rotunda.

 

Ages: All ages can participate in this walk. The more the merrier!

Time Commitment: One hour or more.

Create Birthday Bags

Simpson Housing Services

 

Create memorable birthdays for children in a transitional housing program. Volunteers commit to creating two birthday bags per month for one year. (You may make more than two bags if you wish.) Simpson staff contacts Birthday Bag volunteers bimonthly and will give you the information (name, age, gender and birth date) for the children you are matched with for the upcoming two months. Bags are due back to the main offices before the child's birthday.

Birthday Bags include the following items: disposable cake pan, cake mix, frosting, small paper party plates, party napkins, candles, and an age appropriate gift with a value of $20. (Or, for youth age 13-18, purchase a Target gift card of $15-$20.)

 

Ages: Any age child can help purchase the items and decorate and fill the bags.

Time Commitment: Must be willing to commit to helping out for one year, beginning in February.

Lyngblomsten Care Center

 

St. Paul-based Lyngblomstem Care Center provides services to older adults to preserve and enhance their quality of life. Spend a fun afternoon filing and painting residents' nails.

 

Ages: 10 and older

Time Commitment: Two hour minimum
