Retail Store Merchandising
Goodwill/Easter Seals
 
Do you have an eye for style ... a knack for organizing?  If so, this volunteer opportunity offers the flexibility you need with your busy summer schedule.  Assist with store production and merchandising projects, which may include sorting household products, interacting with customers, organizing books or toys, and hanging clothes for display.  Locations all over the Twin Cities: Apple Valley, Coon Rapids, Eagan, Elk River, Hopkins, Maple Grove, Maplewood, Rochester, Roseville, St. Cloud, St. Paul, Shakopee, Stillwater, West St. Paul, and Willmar.
 
Time Commitment:
2 hour shifts. Available times: Monday - Friday: 9am - 9pm;  Saturday: 9am - 6pm; and Sunday: 11am - 6pm.
 
Ages: 12 and up with adult supervision

A Reason To Party-Birthday Bags for Children
Cheerful Giver's
 
Get a group of family friends together to fill birthday gift bags for children living in poverty.  Ask each person to bring about 20 small new toys for kids ages 3-12. Great for any gathering -- reunions, picnics, and holiday get-togethers.  Check the website for more information about what to include in the bags and where to deliver them.
 
Time Commitment: Depends on the number of bags you decide to stuff.

Puppy Raiser
Hearing and Service Dogs of Minnesota
Minneapolis, MN
 
Hearing and Service Dogs of Minnesota (HSDM) obtains new puppies when they are between the ages of 9 weeks and 12 months.  Kind, responsible families are needed to raise the dogs until they reach 18 months.  The dog then goes back to the facility to be trained as a Service Dog for a physically disabled person.  Foster families are asked to take the puppy to obedience class, socialize it in pubic and attend Puppy Raiser meetings at least once each month.
 
Time Commitment:  Between 6 and 16 months
 
Ages:  Any age child can be a member of the foster family

Walk for Children's Health
6th Annual PaceMaker 5000
Children's Hospital and Clinics
 
The 6th Annual PaceMaker 5000 will take place on Saturday, June 28, 2008 at the Stone Arch Bridge in Downtown Minneapolis. Run, walk, or stroll to benefit cardiac care and other family needs at Children's Hospitals and Clinics of Minnesota. Fees range from $10 to $25 per person.

Time Commitment: Saturday, June 28, 2008
  • 7:30 am -- Registration opens
  • 8 -11am -- Kids fun activities
  • 9am -- 5K walk/run
  • 10:15am --  Kids photo  
  • 10:30am -- Kids fun run

Metro area Meals on Wheels programs invites you to get involved by delivering a noontime meal to homebound people.    Kids love to help carry the lunch and ring the doorbell.  Along with a meal, volunteers deliver a healthy dose of friendship and social connection. Visit Meals-on-Wheels-Find Location to find the program nearest you.  This is a perfect opportunity for families to "do for others" during the summer months.

 

Time Commitment:

 Allow 2 hours, sometimes less depending on the route. 
 

Ages:

 Any age child can come along for the ride, especially if there is more than one adult. Preschool age and older can "help."
